HEXATULLE is for use as a topical treatment only. It is indicated in a wide variety of wounds at risk of infection or in already infected wounds in combination with systemic antibiotics.
HEXATULLE Includes:
Minor burns and scalds.
Tears, abrasions and other wounds of skin loss.
Donor and recipient graft sites.
Leg ulcers.
Do not use on more than 15% of body site wounds for adults.
Do not use on more than 10% of body site wounds for children.
Do not use in cases of known chlorhexidine sensitivity or allergy .
Dermatitis, contact sensitivity or Photo-sensitization may occur rarely. Anaphylactic reaction to chlorhexidine has been reported but is rare.
Avoid contact with eyes, middle ear, meninges and brain.
HEXATULLE is incompatible with soaps, other anionic substances and potassium iodide. The use of HEXATULLE with oxidizing wound cleansing agents should be avoided.
HEXATULLE is a disposable product.
Cross contamination or infection may occur if used on more than one patient.
Opening the dressing pack compromises the sterile barrier, so unused dressing should not be stored for later application.
Clean the wound using standard techniques.
Choose the correct size dressing and peel off the pouch (or tear off the end of the roll pack).
Remove protective papers using gloves and forceps.
Place in a single layer over the wound in direct contact with the wound surface.
Apply a secondary absorbent dressing if necessary and secure in place with a dressing retention bandage or dressing fixation paper.
Removal: HEXATULLE can be left in place while changing the absorbent secondary dressing.
The frequency of changing will depend on clinical conditions and can range from once a day to twice a week.
If the dressing sticks, wet it gently with sterile saline solution.
